Claret

Having recently posted a bunch of names linked to the colour blue, I came across the name 'Claret'
(pronounced Klar-et) and I am loving it.

Claret is a rich purplish red colour similar to 'Burgundy' and it sounds a little like names such as Clara and Claire. The name is also linked to wines and wine tasting. This name comes off as very classy and an alternative to other popular names. It's not too frilly or girly which makes it rather nice and gender free. It's similar to the word 'clarity' like the clarity of a precious gem.

July Unique Baby Name Collection

Every month we'll put together a list of ten cool names that we are loving at the moment. This will give you a few suggestions of names that are male, female or unisex to consider for your future little one.

This is our very first list and we share it with you in the hopes you may find your future baby name. If you ever pick a baby name that you found in this blog, please let us know with a tweet.

  1. Adrienne (f)
This is a sweet and classy name, no frills and no fuss. It rolls so nicely off the tongue like a gentle wave. Adrienne is a chilled out individual with good manners and a level-headed approach to life.
  2. Blaze (unisex) For a boy or girl, this could be a warm and fiery name. This is the name for a trail-blazing kid who sets trends and is never afraid to speak their mind. This child is strong and true of heart.
  3. Hestia (f) This is the perfect summer baby name. Linked to fire, hearths, stars... this name illuminates. This is a name that radiates light and with The Fault in Our Stars becoming more popular than ever, people will probably be wanting star-inspired names. This is someone who will bring warmth to your home and your heart.
  4. Keith (m) This is a Scottish name, perfect for a little boy living in the countryside. The meaning of the name links to forests and so would be perfect perhaps for an outdoorsy family.
  5. Indigo (unisex) Indigo is a lovely, deep shade of blue. This could be the name for a child with a poetic soul. It could be shortened to Indi/Indy
  6. Lucian (m) Lucian is a soft French name. This could be the name for a baby held in high esteem. It could be spelled Lucien. Alternatives for a girl: Lucienne, Lucianne.
  7. Raphael (m) In Hebrew this name means 'God has healed' and is set to rise in popularity this year, though it still isn't topping baby name charts. This is perfect for the child or artsy parents.
  8. Sterling (unisex) This is the name for a strong child, male or female.
  9. Ursula (f) Though Ursula may be the villain of The Little Mermaid, I feel that this name is due for a bit of a Renaissance. It's a very pretty name with plenty of potential. The name means 'little bear' and could be the title of a beloved daughter.
  10. Gareth (m) The name, meaning gentle, goes back into the realm of myth. Gareth is the name of a knight of the Round Table in Arthurian Legend. Gareth is a name to give a child you wish to grow up with a strong will and sense of bravery.
